Originally, the borough was formed in 1965 by the merger of St Pancras, Hampstead and Holborn with the origins in medieval Ancient Parishes whilst Holborn was formed by the union of small units. The old parish and boroughs of Hampstead includes Belsize Park and parts of Kilburn. St Pancras includes most of the borough of Camden and others.
